The St. Petersburg branch of S.I. Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences is very glad to announce our new summer school. We invite you to make an unforgettable trip to the “Northern Capital” of Russia and to take part in the work of the International academic school «Scientific Saint-Petersburg» (2.05–8.05.2016).
Here, in the heart of the former capital of the Russian Empire and the Russian science we will offer you the opportunity to get to know all the magnificence of the city and to reveal secrets of tercentenary history of its academic and scientific life.
The Academy of Sciences was founded in 1724 in this city, and through out the 18th century the number of brilliant scholars worked here, namely: M.V. Lomonosov, L. Euler, D. Bernulli, I.-G. Gmelin, G.-W. Richmann, V.K. Trediakovsky, S.P. Krasheninnikov, I.I. Lepekhin, N.Ya, Ozeretskovsky, P.-S. Pallas and many other.
St. Petersburg — the city of the oldest institutions of the high education. In 1773 the Mining Academy was founded, in 1798 — The Army Medical Academy, at the beginning of the 19th century — the State University, the Forestry Academy, the State Transport University, and the Institute of Technology.
St. Petersburg — the city of the epoch-making discoveries. D.I. Mendeleyev has created his Periodic Table and formulated the periodic law; A.S. Popov has invented radio; and the physiological school of I.P. Pavlov became world renowned.

We offer all participants the unique excursions and educational program that is developed especially for them. The leading historians of St. Petersburg will give lectures and tell the participants the stories about how the city at the river Neva was built and how its domestic science and education have been developing until now. You will have an opportunity to visit the oldest research institutions of the “Northern Capital” and to go on tour around the places connected to the famous names, that is museums of: M.V. Lomonosov, I.P. Pavlov, the traveler P.K. Kozlov, and the the Vladimir Palace (“House of Scientists”), etc.
You will be able to get acquainted with the leading higher education institutions of St. Petersburg, to learn about programs of degree and post-degree training (a bachelor degree, a magistracy, postgraduate study). Perhaps, you will have a desire to get the academic education in the city bewitching the beauty on Neva.
The program of school provides fascinating rounds. Besides pedestrian and bus excursions on the richest architectural historic center of the Cultural capital of Russia, you are waited by unforgettable trips to romantic suburbs of St. Petersburg — the monument of architecture of world value included in the list of UNESCO in the city Pushkin and, of course, «a kingdom of fountains» — delightful Peterhoff. You will be able to admire beauty of the night city, to see distributing of bridges, to make walks on the numerous rivers and channels of Northern Venice, to get acquainted with theater life of St. Petersburg.

Following the results of work of school to all participants the certificate of participation will be issued. The international School will organize its work in Russian and English.
Participant’s fee: 15 000 rubles on the person.
This includes: lectures, the excursion program and food according to the schedule.
The Organizing committee offers hotel booking with reduced rates. Information on numbers and cost is submitted on the website http://www.hotel-nauka.ru/ Participants can reserve accommodation independently in any of hotels of St. Petersburg. The organizing committee will provide advice.
We will not offer transportation — return tickets to St. Petersburg should be obtained independently. For participation in the International school you need to submit the application, and also to make an advance payment of 50% of cost (7 500 rubles) before April 15, 2016.
